A New Arrival!
St. Joseph Catholic School announces the
arrival of a pre-school for the 2011-2012 school year! We will offer a full
or ½ day program for 3 yr-olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a full or ½
day program for 4 yr-olds on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The
curriculum for both the three and four-year-old program includes religion
and a standards-based academic curriculum that focuses on literacy,
pre-reading, and pre-math skills taught in group activities and through
learning centers. Other areas of the curriculum include science, social
studies, and general preparatory skills such as hand washing, developing
manners, dexterity and motor skills. In addition, the four-year-old children
will have an introduction to the use of computers and use of the school
library. Play, creative activities, field trips and music are included in
the curriculum as well as physical education activities both outdoors and in
the school gymnasium. Interactive learning using the classroom Promethean
board will prepare the children for kindergarten expectations.
Mrs. Dawn Hootselle, a certified early childhood educator, will be the
pre-school teacher. She has 8 years of teaching experience, 3 at St. Joseph's.
Enrollment is limited to 10 students for the three year-old class and 12
students for the four year-old class. Registration will be January 24 – 28
in the school office between 8AM and 4:30PM. Evening registration is
available by appointment. Please call Principal Charlotte Vielweber for more
information.
